    My macbook pro (10.6.2) has gone back to future. Took a picture in Photo Booth and the filename said the year was 2010. Yes, my system clock is set correctly. I was able to repeat this behavior on other mac running snow leopard. From what I can tell, this started happening on 12/27/09.

    @HardwareWars: It's likely that the Silverlight plugin doesn't play nice with Chrome. That, and Chrome is not really the best performing browser, as far as I've observed using it.

    There are several Dells on this website that I haven't seen before and aren't on Dell's usual website.

    Inspiron Zino (not HD) with Atom processor not AMD

    There are others, but these stand out to me. I got a nearby link from you guys

    I've been reading and commenting on this site for about 2 years now, and while it's been fun, I've noticed that sometimes things can get a little out of hand when it comes to how commenters may be treated for dissenting opinion, especially when this opinion is accompanied by a very personal perspective, which is then deleted, likely to save face. This is unacceptable. While I, as a mere reader of a blog, don't have any say in how the site is administered, it'd be nice to know that there's a little more respect for the readership.

    What I'm talking about (at least mostly) is the Twitter article, where a grieving mother spilled her guts online. Rather than simply criticize and raise questions about her motives for doing so, it was a clear and biting indictment on her character. The worst part, as far as I've read, is that the article did not properly represent the actual events in question, and the title was grossly misleading (" real time" was not actually real-time). She chose a method to ease her own grief and reached out to other people. However well she knows a lot of the people who follow her on Twitter is not my concern, nor is it anyone else's. I've talked to plenty of people online, sent people lots of personal messages, and while most of them have never seen me in person, I've been able to briefly confide in them little snippets of personal info, and gotten some in return. As purveyors of tech news, the writers of this site should know better than most that pen pals don't have to use snail mail for it to be "legitimate".

    I posted my grief about my father's death on Facebook once, and I do believe it was as soon as I had access to a computer that same day. Would I accept such a biting indictment of my character? Fuck no. In fact, if I were to be criticized in such a fashion, at that point in my life, I'd have no problem being as violent as every ounce of my strength would allow, and I don't believe I would regret it after sobering from my "drunk" anger.

    I find it saddening that tastelessness prevails, and misleading information becomes truth, and reality is thrown aside, or systematically deleted to maintain a certain image. I don't care if it results in my "star" being taken away, because its worth is greatly detracted if voicing your opinion and standing up for your principals is suddenly viewed as a bad thing.

    @Kaiser-Machead: This.

    It would be nice if we had a way to discuss this with the editor overlords (though I suppose this is as good a place as any). As much as the comment system has its flaws, both in concept and in execution, I've accepted it because it encourages intelligent and thought-provoking feedback. But, when that very same mentality is censored for the sake of what amounts to a pissing contest, that's simply unacceptable.

    Especially when it comes to such a sensitive topic. It's one thing to air your own opinions about the subject. But when it comes to human grief, no one is an authority. And it is the pinnacle of arrogance to claim that someone else "did it wrong". Even if it was with something as easy to ridicule as Twitter.

    That bit of censorship was a tasteless,
    arrogant abuse of power.

    @Kaiser-Machead: I'm with you. How you deal with grief is your fucking business, the photo was tasteless, and taking arguably the site's most respected commenter's star over his comments when many, many people agreed is shallow. I had no idea it was taken for his comments- I figured it was because he hadn't posted in a while.

    Give Ponies his star back. #tips

    @Kaiser-Machead: +1

    Jesus has proven time and again that he is an arrogant, judgmental and offense writer. While I enjoy the majority of his posts for their witty humor, and blunt truths, he doesn't know the limits of morality. The twitter-mom post was disgusting. He put himself in a position of authority, and tried to tell people how they should act during a time of tragedy. Furthermore... the graphic for that article was appalling.

    Worse even, is that when every single commenter stepped up to tell him that he had crossed the line with his post, and that there were numerous errors in the post, he did nothing to ratify his mistake. Quite to the contrary, he punished one of the most well respected commenters on Gizmodo for his contradictory opinion and deleted said-opinion. Disgusting.

    Check this out, [bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com] Nooks rollout today was a total disaster while B&N's payment gateway has been up all day after you purchase a book you are left totally unable to download either from the device or the site. It seems their servers have simply failed miserably under heavy load and have been down since early morning and almost all book downloads have simply stopped happening. I myself received a nook today and have not had a chance to really try it out as the system is down. - Jake T

    A quick way to make Google Chrome's "awesome bar" more like Firefox's, to bring you directly to a page close to the entered term, is to make a new search engine using the google "I'm feeling lucky" button.

    In Chrome: Right click the address/search bar in chromeEdit search engines...Add...

    Pick a name (I chose "I'm feeling lucky"), a keyword (I used something short like "go" or "go to") and then finally in the url box add:
    [www.google.com]

    Set that as default and there you go.

    If you like the original way too, you can give your search engine of preference a quick keyword like "s" to quickly run a search.

    Hope this helps someone.
